How to Brew the Perfect Cup of Coffee at Home

Freshly ground spiced coffee in a wooden bowl with cardamom and ginger

Great coffee at home is mostly arithmetic: the right amount of coffee, the right water temperature, and the discipline to stop brewing on time. Here is how we brew Ayman Coffee.

The ratio that works

Use one heaped tablespoon (about 10g) of ground coffee for every 200ml cup. Stronger is not better — over-dosing without extending the brew just makes the cup harsh.

Water temperature and time

Boil the water, then let it stand for 30 seconds. Water straight off a rolling boil scorches the grounds and pulls out bitterness. Aim for roughly 92-96°C.

French press: pour, stir once, steep four minutes, then plunge slowly. Pour-over: wet the grounds, wait 30 seconds, then pour in slow circles for two to three minutes. Pan method: add coffee to hot (not boiling) water, hold for three minutes, then strain.

Brewing our spiced blend

Because Ayman Coffee is already blended with ginger and cardamom, you do not need to add spices. For a coastal-style cup, brew as above and add hot milk and a little sugar or honey to taste. Iced: brew double strength, cool, then pour over ice.

  • Store the pouch sealed, cool and away from sunlight
  • Never keep brewed coffee on heat — reheat only in a cup
  • Rinse equipment with plain hot water; soap residue dulls aroma
